The joke is the promise
The name is a play on the silence that runs through the security industry. Real, useful knowledge gets locked behind paywalls, NDAs, sales motions, and conference invites. Plain explanations are rare. Honest answers about risk are rarer.
Calling ourselves Censored Systems is a small, deliberate joke about that — and a promise to do the opposite. Plain words. Straight answers. Work put where the people who need it can find it.
The work, and why we do it
Censored Systems is built on the conviction that the security field has gotten too quiet, too expensive, and too cliquey to do its job. The people and organizations who need security advice often can't afford to be in the room where it's given. The tools that work are either priced out of reach or trapped behind quarter-long sales cycles. The language is jargon for the sake of it.
We build, teach, and operate alternatives. Education puts compliance training in 25 languages at a price small organizations can pay. Grid brings managed security operations to organizations that would otherwise go without. Consulting meets teams where they are. We publish what we can — because what's published can be used, and what can be used makes everyone safer.
What we're aiming at
Build, teach, and operate security that organizations of every size can use — in plain language, at a fair price.
A field where every organization, at every size and budget, can afford the security and privacy it needs by default.
Four things we don't bend on
-
01
Honesty over comfort
We tell people what they need to hear — about their risks, our limits, and the bills. Comfortable answers don't keep anyone safe.
-
02
Plain language
If we can't explain it without jargon, we don't understand it well enough yet. Plain words are a security feature.
-
03
Openness
We publish what we can, contribute to what's already free, and build on the work of others. Closed knowledge stalls everyone.
-
04
Community
We're rooted somewhere specific. We hire and partner locally, and treat being from somewhere as a feature, not a footnote.
Albuquerque, New Mexico
Censored Systems was founded in Albuquerque, and the work still happens here. New Mexico shaped the company. We work with organizations of every size, but we keep our roots in the kind of community where people know each other by name and a recommendation actually means something.
